Danielle's At Home Style: Practical + Stylish Living With West Elm

Happy Monday, guys! As you may remember, Beth and I recently had the pleasure of working with the gorgeous new West Elm in Palm Beach Gardens to incorporate our favorite pieces into our homes with our signature Palm Beach Lately style. Beth transformed her back patio into an entertaining oasis, and today I am sharing my family’s newly decorated living room!

I learned from Erin Gates’ Elements of Style {a must-read for anyone looking for a little decorating guidance!} that the entryway is very important and sets the tone for the rest of the home. Since our entryway connects to our living room, I started by refreshing this area with West Elm’s Box Frame Console and Kate Spade Saturday Neon Diamond Wool Rug. I was drawn to the console’s sleek frame and mango wood top and the rug’s unexpected neon pattern. This eclectic combo, where modern meets classic pieces + a hint of colorful, playful touches, works well for our lifestyle.

Decorating should be a reflection of who you are {never feel like there is right or wrong!}, and a few of my favorite pieces to style our console table include books, candles and interesting objects. But my absolute favorite are framed family photos, as you can see from our gallery wall in the first photo. Nothing is more personal or special in our home than sharing these precious moments in our lives.

Moving into the living room, I can’t wait to share this simple yet effective update, new pillows! When I saw this pom pom pillow from West Elm, I had to have it, and added a few other personality pillows, like Bridge City Blooms by Caitlin Wilson Textiles and the Kate Spade inspired “Eat Cake For Breakfast” pillow from Society6. {How cute is this brass pineapple, too?!}

These colorful pillows look great on our white couch, a piece that has been around for many years as our family has grown to include 2 dogs and 2 kids! {You may be thinking dogs.. kids.. white couch.. is she crazy?! The key to white sofas are slipcovers that you can quickly and easily toss into the washer and dryer so they stay good as new!}

My other favorite spot in our living room is this chaise lounge and Overarching Floor Lamp in Antique Brass. I’ve always loved how this lamp blends modern and classic style and is practical, too! The gold base and white linen shade are so, so chic and the lamp gives off the perfect glow in the evening.

By now you can see that I love mixing practical and stylish, and this other little nook in our living room is no different. Take West Elm’s Jute Chenille Herringbone Rug for instance. With dogs and kids playing, spilling and tracking in all kinds of things, natural fiber rugs work best for us, and this rug combines durability with a beautiful herringbone pattern. It perfectly balances this peacock chair, spotted pillow, sheepskin rug, and garden stool {similar here} and creates a happy little corner.

When I need a little pick me up in my day, one of my favorite rituals is to relax and enjoy a cup of tea in my living room. An organic chai tea latte served on this lucite monogrammed tray by Emily McCarthy has become my go-to move, and this ABD Hello Sunshine Mug is a great piece to both give and keep!

The last area in our living room makeover is my mini home office. As a wife, mommy and lifestyle blogger who also runs an online shop {all mainly from home!}, I wear many hats and need a designated place at home to sit at my computer, go through emails, create new posts and much, much more. West Elm’s Mid Century Mini Desk offers plenty of space and comfort to work from home, and I love Susie Bettenhausen’s painting above my desk. It inspires me, and the color palette works well with the nearby pillows and decor!

My desk space is another place where I combine necessity with inspiration. West Elm’s Scoop Table Lamp brings light to my desk after hours, and Lara Casey’s prints motivate me on days when I need encouragement.

Other whimsical touches that ham up my desk include this Hello Word Object, Bloggers Gonna Blog Print and Flamingo Notepad.

A home office space doesn’t have to be chaotic and messy. It’s important to organize all of the papers and random pieces into baskets, bins and boxes. The mail and paperwork can be difficult to wrangle; if everything has a home, it helps to keep it from getting out of control! {And if it still does, don’t fret! Always remember: “purpose over perfect!”}

This clean and simple bookcase is a great home base for all of the odds and ends. A few other faves in this area include this Lulu Frost Tray and bottle vase from West Elm and an original Abstract Flamingo Print that Susie Bettenhausen created for Palm Beach Lately. There is no shortage of flamingo love around here, as well as anything Florida, sunshine and Palm Beach, of course!
