Last week we had the pleasure of visiting one of our favorite boutique properties, The Islands of Islamorada. We went a couple times last year <seen here and here> and were delighted to go again for a getaway with our families. Less than 3 hours from home, it makes it so easy to get away and yet feels like we are in the Caribbean islands. Come along today as we share some of the new things The Islands has added since we were there last!
One of our favorite amenities at The Islands of Islamorada is their private beach. It is rare to have beachfront property in the Keys, and their shore is perfect for the kids to play along and collect shells. Chaise lounges along the beach are also great for resting and reading a book, or they have paddle boards and kayaks for those wanting to get out onto the water.
The Islands also has a main pool behind the villas and recently opened a new pool and tiki bar with swings and seating behind their new suites. The new pool is only 3 to 4 feet deep making it great for the kids, and it also features a separate hot tub. The tiki bar is a lovely place to order a glass of wine, beer or champagne and also enjoy a takeout lunch or dinner from a nearby restaurant. You can read more about all of their wonderful amenities here!
The Islands also has a brand new park for the kids and pickle ball court. One side of the park is perfect for little toddlers with low slides and ladders to help them climb, while the other side is perfect for big kids. Our kiddos loved sliding and climbing the monkey bars!
Also next to the park is a beautiful new pickle ball court. We just started playing when we came for Beth’s 40th birthday in December and are totally hooked on this sport. It is such a fun, social game to play with family and friends, and we love that we can play it here, too!
When we visit The Islands, we love to plan one special on-property dinner during our stay (see our anniversary and birthday celebrations here and here). Matt and Mo, the husband and wife super team who manage the property, are such a delight to work with on all of the details. They are very hands on and do everything from helping coordinate the food arrangements and setting up the table to Matt cracking the yummy stone crabs and plating the lobster and shrimp from Lobster Walk for dinner.
For this dinner, they set up a table on their new point that overlooks the sea. It is a spacious area that is perfect for everything from an intimate dinner to a wedding or special occasion. Beth gathered some beautiful new tabletop pieces from The Avenue, like these Birds of Paradise placemats and pink peony napkins. We also had our friend Stefanie of Prim Rose Garden Design create three stunning floral centerpieces for the table. And the whole fam wore cozy clothing from Vineyard Vines to stay warm on this chilly night!
After dinner, we crowded around their new fire pit that is also located on their new point. The team at The Islands thinks of all the special little details and offers s’mores kits for purchase at the new tiki hut that include graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate pieces. We all had fun roasting marshmallows and enjoying the sweet after dinner treats!
In the morning, we woke up in our matching Stone Clover Lane x Roller Rabbit pajamas and set up a breakfast on the balcony to enjoy with the kids. While there is not food available on-property at this time, there are so many fab local spots to dine-in or take-out.
Our favorite restaurants in Islamorada are Midway Cafe for take-out breakfast (great for breakfast sandwiches, smoothies and oatmeal), Bayside Gourmet for take-out breakfast, lunch or dinner (we love their salads, sandwiches and pizza), Bad Boy Burrito for take-out burritos, The Beach Café or Pierre’s Restaurant at Morada Bay for sunset and dinner, and Kaiyo Grill & Sushi for dine-in or take-out sushi dinner!
The Islands also has a private marina if you want to bring your own boat or rent a boat for your stay. You can coordinate with their on-site manager, and we highly recommend incorporating boating into your activities while here. We were lucky to enjoy a cruise on the Hinckley that is docked on-property for Barton & Gray Mariners Club members to use.
Cruising around the ocean and bay on this beautiful boat was so peaceful, and we hopped off to pick up a fruity cocktail at one of the nearby local spots. But the very best thing we will always remember from this boating adventure was spotting a pod of dolphins swimming with their babies right off The Islands of Islamorada!
