Travel: Palm Beach Lately at Sea Island, GA

A couple years ago, we visited Sea Island, GA and created one of our favorite travel guides for you! We have been wanting to visit again, so on our way home from North Carolina we decided to stay a couple nights in Sea Island. Last time we stayed at The Cloister, but this time we reserved one of their new golf cottages located at The Lodge. Come along today as we share some of the new accommodations and fun activities that Sea Island has to offer!

Sea Island is so easy to fall in love with because of its family-friendly, southern hospitality. We shared all of our favorite things about The Cloister in our Guide to Sea Island, but this time we wanted to experience their “private, coastal boutique resort” known as The Lodge. Since we last visited, they built seven brand new two-bedroom and four-bedroom golf cottages to compliment their 58-room English-style manor. And they are gorgeous!

Some of our favorite features in the 2500 sq. ft. four-bedroom cottage are the front patio with porch swing, white-paneled walls, a cozy fireplace, a beautiful dining room table and chairs, a wet bar with sink and fridge, two king beds and four queen beds, and luxurious oversized bathrooms in each bedroom with washstand sinks and freestanding bathtubs.

When we arrived, we jumped right into their fun activities because they have so many to offer! That morning, we took the kids fishing with a private guide. The calm, salt-water marsh is great for fishing with the family and the guide was helpful and knowledgeable. The kids had a blast baiting the the hooks, casting the rods and reeling in fish. We were hoping to catch a big fish so we could have the restaurant back at The Lodge prepare it for us, but we didn’t. That’s ok, though, because we still had the best time being on the water!

After fishing, we went back to our golf cottage to clean up for lunch at The Lodge’s Oak Room. They have an outdoor, screened-in porch that is great for enjoying a delicious Cobb Salad, Fish Tacos and Oak Room Burger. Just off the veranda, you can see The Lodge’s new 18-hole putting course called “The Speedway.” It is open nearly all-day, every day and is first come, first serve so anyone can hop in and play anytime of day. We played after lunch and again each evening before dinner, which is the most beautiful time of day as the sun sets over the ocean and the bagpiper makes his way around the bonfire and putting green.

Before the day was done, we had fun swimming at The Lodge’s brand new pool and even squeezed in a golf lesson with a fabulous instructor! She gave the best tips on how to hold the club and swing and was very encouraging. The following day, we wanted to spend time at The Cloister before heading home, so we stopped by their lobby to see the birds in the beautiful conservatory, swam in the pool at the Beach Club, had lunch at Snack Shack, and even scored some strikes and spares at their awesome new bowling alley, Sea Strike & Pub! We didn’t have time to play tennis on their beautiful courts, relax at the spa or horseback ride along the beach, but we will definitely come back soon because it’s a family favorite!
