When we were planning our vacation to Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, NC, we had a very special occasion to work into our getaway. Our mom’s boyfriend was planning to propose to her, and we were so excited to help make it unforgettable. Come along today as we share our favorite moments from their engagement, as well as the elegant tablescape we designed for the celebration dinner that we hosted at the Hutchinson House!
We knew Peter was going to ask our mom to marry him while we were on the vacation, but it wasn’t until we arrived at our destination that we could help fine tune the proposal. Our mom loves horses and when we saw the long driveway and lush landscape around the Hutchinson House, we immediately envisioned working in a horse-drawn carriage.
This element was quite a vision to put together in less than 24 hours, but we love a good challenge and worked with the sweetest couple from Carolina Horse and Carriage to make it happen! The beautiful white horse and carriage felt like a magical fairytale, and the kids loved feeding the horse carrots and joining our mom and Peter for a second ride through the adorable town. They even passed churches that were ringing their bells as they went by!
After the proposal, it was time to celebrate by popping a custom, hand-painted bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut Rose Champagne by M Calligraphy! We also brought some of our favorite tableware from home to set the table with like bamboo chargers, blush wine glasses and gold silverware. Then, we added custom place cards and menu cards with a floral design that matched the stunning floral centerpieces by Floressence. The fresh flowers were chosen in the prettiest shades of blush, peach and cream and were perfect for fall florals!
Just when we were thinking the night couldn’t get any better, Old Edwards Inn and Spa provided the most outstanding culinary experience. Their incredibly talented chef prepared the dinner off-property and then used our kitchen to complete it. Our home was filled with delicious aromas of warm, buttery breads, meats and vegetables. That evening, we feasted on two fresh salads, garlic and herb lobster, beef tenderloin, ribeye and flank steak, roasted vegetables, macaroni and cheese with bread crumbs on top, and the yummiest bread pudding that was voted the very best bread pudding any of us have ever had!
After dinner, the team set up an outdoor movie screen, chairs on our lawn and a candy and popcorn bar on the porch to enjoy while we watched the original Cinderella under the stars. You can see more of their engagement dinner and the movie screening on our Instagram stories. We can’t thank the team at Old Edwards Inn and Spa enough for their gracious hospitality and mountain experience. We only wished we had more time to stay and soak it in, but we know we will surely go back soon as it easily became a new family favorite!
