Beauty: How Sisters Wear Bows Two Ways

[tps_footer]Lately we love bows, bows, bows, especially in our hair! One of our favorite hairstylists, Amanda Parisi of Salon Aquatica, recently came by Beth’s house to show us {and you!} how to create two adorable and easy bow hairstyles that are perfect to try day or night!

Beth’s Bun + Bow:

  1. On dry hair, work Morrocan Oil Light through the ends and mid section to tame any frizz and add shine to the hair.  This style works especially well on second-day hair!
  2. Gather hair into a ponytail at the center of the crown area, paying careful attention to the smoothing down the sides but letting some natural texture form on the top of the head to keep it modern and fresh.
  3. While holding the ponytail straight up, slide the sock bun down the length of the ponytail while still allowing three inches of hair to fan out at the top. Distribute the ends equally around the sock bun, and roll it down against your head.  Texture is in, so don’t worry about it looking too perfect as long as the sock bun is hidden under the hair!
  4. No need for hairpins! The sock bun holds your hair in place, but if you rock a shorter style, a few won’t hurt.  Spritz some of your favorite hairspray, like Aveda Control Force, around the entire style, paying special attention to hairline flyaways.
  5. A “Gina Made It” bow has the perfect sized elastic to place around the bun form; and have fun placing the bow above, below or beside the bun.
  6. Voila!  A modern take on a classic hairstyle for your next night out.

Danielle’s French Twist + Bow:

  1. On dry hair, work a lightweight hairspray like Aveda Air Control from roots to ends. If your hair holds curl well, use a heat protectant spray instead.
  2. Taking large, horizontal sections, curl your hair with a wand or flat iron. For a natural look, alternate one curl going clockwise, the other counter-clockwise, and repeat.
  3. Once you have your entire head curled, use a shine spray on the tips of your fingers, and run your hands through your hair, starting at the ends and working your way up.  This turns your curls into waves!
  4. Part your hair and starting at your temples, loosely pull the top half of your hair to the back center of your head. Give the crown little tease for some added volume. Start twisting the entire section to one side, creating a mini upside-down “French twist,” and use four or five bobby pins to keep it in place.
  5. Pin back any hair that has fallen around your face.  Give the entire style another good spritz with hair spray. Secure a bow just below the twist.
  6. Now you have an elegant and updated half up, half down, with a twist!
